De grammatica

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

The first volume of the Disciplinarum libri, the encyclopaedia of the liberal arts Augustine planned at Milan in 387. According to the Retractationes he finished only the grammar, whose manuscript he later lost. Two short grammatical treatises transmitted under his name survive (a De grammatica and a Regulae), whose relation to the authentic book is disputed.
