On the Nature of the Good — Augustine of Hippo

Written work

On the Nature of the Good

De natura boni

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

An anti-Manichaean synthesis of around 399–405 setting out with systematic clarity Augustine's ontology: everything that exists is good inasmuch as God created it with measure, form and order, and evil is the corruption or privation of those goods, not a nature. It includes long quotations from the Manichaean Thesaurus.
