De beata vita

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A Cassiciacum dialogue recording three days of conversation around Augustine's birthday, 13 November 386, with Monica taking part. Its thesis is that only one who possesses God is happy, and that the soul's fullness lies in knowing 'by whom one is led to truth, what truth one enjoys and through what one is joined to the supreme measure'. It contains autobiographical information on his intellectual path.
