Questions on the Gospels

Quaestionum evangeliorum libri II

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

Explanations of passages of Matthew (book I) and Luke (book II), written around 399–400 from a reader's queries. They abound in allegorical interpretations, such as that of the Good Samaritan as a history of salvation. The appendix of seventeen questions on Matthew transmitted separately is of disputed authenticity.
