On Eighty-Three Varied Questions

De diversis quaestionibus octoginta tribus

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A collection of answers to questions from his community companions, from 388 to 395–396, gathered in one book by order of the bishop. They range from philosophy to exegesis; question 46, De ideis, is the classic statement of the theory of ideas as thoughts in the divine mind, which passed Platonism on to the Middle Ages.
