On Dialectic

De dialectica

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A short unfinished treatise on logic and the theory of meaning, commonly regarded as the beginning of the dialectic of the Disciplinarum libri, which the Retractationes describe as sketched and lost. It distinguishes word, sign, sayable and thing, in a theory of language of Stoic basis that anticipates the semiotics of De magistro and De doctrina christiana.
