Reply to Faustus the Manichaean

Contra Faustum Manichaeum libri XXXIII

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

The largest anti-Manichaean work, of around 397–400: thirty-three books that quote and refute one by one the chapters of the Capitula of Faustus of Milevis, the Manichaean bishop Augustine had met at Carthage. It defends the continuity of the Old and New Testaments, the historicity of the incarnation and the dignity of the patriarchs, and preserves much of his opponent's text.
