Replies to the Enquiries of Januarius

Ad inquisitiones Ianuarii libri II

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

Two long letters (Letters 54 and 55) of around 400 answering one Januarius on divergent liturgical customs between Churches (the Saturday fast, fasting communion, the date of Easter). They lay down the principle that what is contrary neither to faith nor to morals should be respected according to the local Church.
