Enarrationes in Psalmos

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

The largest of his biblical commentaries: expositions of the hundred and fifty psalms composed between c. 392 and c. 422, some dictated and others preached before the people and taken down by stenographers, including thirty-two sermons on Psalm 118. Augustine reads the psalms as the voice of the whole Christ, head and body, singing and groaning in the pilgrim Church. It is the work in which the preacher is best heard and his spirituality of desire and praise is expressed most freely. The title Enarrationes is Erasmus's.
