Against the Letter of Mani called 'The Foundation'

Contra epistulam Manichaei quam vocant Fundamenti

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A refutation of 396–397 of the Epistula fundamenti, the reference doctrinal text of the African Manichaeans, of which it discusses only the beginning. It contains the famous statement that Augustine would not believe the Gospel unless moved by the authority of the Catholic Church, and a critique of the Manichaean cosmology of two kingdoms.
