On the Immortality of the Soul — Augustine of Hippo

Written work

On the Immortality of the Soul

De immortalitate animae

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A draft for a third book of the Soliloquies written at Milan in early 387, which circulated without its author's permission. It is a series of condensed, Platonic-inspired arguments for the immortality of the soul as the seat of knowledge and unchanging truth. In the Retractationes Augustine admits that the work is so obscure that he himself can barely understand it.
