On the Two Souls

De duabus animabus

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A short anti-Manichaean treatise of 391–392 refuting the doctrine that two souls coexist in every human being, a good one, particle of the light, and an evil one of the nature of darkness. Augustine argues that every soul, like all life, comes from God and is good, and that sin lies in the will.
