On the Correction of the Donatists

De correctione Donatistarum

El retrato más antiguo de Agustín (fresco de Letrán, s. VI)
byAugustine of Hippo

A letter-treatise (Letter 185) of around 417 to the tribune Boniface, justifying the application of imperial laws against the Donatists with the 'compel them to come in' of Luke 14:23. It is Augustine's classic text on religious coercion, invoked for centuries and much criticised in modern times.
