On Philosophy
Περὶ φιλοσοφίας

A dialogue that traced a history of wisdom from the Persian magi and the ancient sages, criticised the Platonic theory of Forms and numbers, and set out a cosmic theology: the order of the heavens and the experience of dreams and inspiration as sources of belief in the gods. Cicero preserved its comparison of men who, emerging from a cave, would behold for the first time the beauty of the sky.

Authorship note
A lost work, surviving only in fragments and testimonies preserved by later authors. It belongs to the “exoteric” writings, intended for a wide public, which Aristotle published in his lifetime and which antiquity read more than the treatises. Three books in dialogue form.
