Constitution of the Athenians (Athenaion Politeia)
Ἀθηναίων πολιτεία

A constitutional history of Athens through its eleven transformations, from the time of the kings to the democratic restoration of 403 BCE, followed by a detailed description of how democracy worked in Aristotle's day: citizenship requirements, the Council, the magistracies chosen by lot and by election, the courts. It is a historical source of the first order, above all for the reforms of Solon and Cleisthenes.

Authorship note
The only survivor of the 158 constitutions collected at the Lyceum. It is attributed to Aristotle or to a student under his direction. Lost for centuries, it was recovered from an Egyptian papyrus published by Frederic Kenyon in 1891; hence it is absent from Bekker's edition.
