Busto de Aristóteles (Museo Nacional Romano, Palazzo Altemps)
byAristotle

A collection of difficulties in the text of the Iliad and Odyssey — inconsistencies, improbabilities, moral questions — with their solutions. It reflects Aristotle's interest in Homer, whose Iliad he corrected for Alexander, and his method of raising puzzles in order to solve them.

Authorship note

A lost work, surviving only in fragments and testimonies preserved by later authors. It belongs to the “exoteric” writings, intended for a wide public, which Aristotle published in his lifetime and which antiquity read more than the treatises. Six books, known from the scholia to Homer and from Porphyry.
