Busto de Aristóteles (Museo Nacional Romano, Palazzo Altemps)

A chronological catalogue of the victors in the Pythian Games at Delphi, prepared at the sanctuary's request. It served as a tool of historical chronology and earned Aristotle and Callisthenes a crown and public recognition from the city, an honour later withdrawn.

Authorship note

A lost work, surviving only in fragments and testimonies preserved by later authors. It belongs to the “exoteric” writings, intended for a wide public, which Aristotle published in his lifetime and which antiquity read more than the treatises. Compiled with Callisthenes. An inscription from Delphi, found in the French excavations, preserves the decree honouring both for it.
