Comedy in six acts written in 1886 for a popular theatre, from the story How the Little Devil Redeemed the Crust: an imp teaches a peasant to distil spirits, and drink awakens in men the blood of the fox, the wolf and the pig. It is the first play Tolstoy wrote for the popular fairground theatres.
