byLeo Tolstoy

Fable. Part of the Azbuka cycle (1872–1875), the primers Tolstoy wrote for peasant children, included in the First Russian Reader (1875). A jackdaw whitens itself to feed with the doves but gives itself away by cawing; they drive it out and the jackdaws no longer recognise it either.
