God Sees the Truth, but Waits

Бог правду видит, да не скоро скажет

Lev Tolstói en Yásnaia Poliana (1908)
byLeo Tolstoy

Story. Part of the Azbuka cycle (1872–1875), the primers Tolstoy wrote for peasant children, included in the Third Russian Reader (1875). The merchant Ivan Aksyonov, accused of a murder he did not commit, spends twenty-six years in Siberia; when he finds the real culprit he forgives him and dies before the pardon arrives. Tolstoy counted it, with A Prisoner of the Caucasus, among the best things he had written.
