Lev Tolstói en Yásnaia Poliana (1908)
byLeo Tolstoy

Legend of a youth whose mysterious godfather shows him in a palace how his acts doom others. To atone for the evil he did by trying to punish evil, he must water a burnt stump until it sprouts, and through living with a robber he learns that evil is not overcome by evil. Published in 1886. It belongs to the popular stories Tolstoy wrote after his conversion for the Posrednik press, in plain language and with the structure of a parable.
