Lev Tolstói en Yásnaia Poliana (1908)
byLeo Tolstoy

Story of a cruel steward who forces the serfs to plough on Easter Day. One peasant, Pyotr, ploughs with a lighted candle on his plough, singing hymns; the steward dies that same day, and the serf's meekness proves stronger than violence. Written in 1885 and published in 1886. It belongs to the popular stories Tolstoy wrote after his conversion for the Posrednik press, in plain language and with the structure of a parable.
