Unfinished peasant story of 1861–1862, preserved in two sketches: "Earning is fine, but it brings sin too" ("Оно заработки хорошо, да и грех бывает от того") and "Don't play with fire or you'll get burnt" ("Не играй с огнем — обожжешься"). Written in the speech of the Tula peasants during the years of the Yasnaya Polyana school, it was published in 1911.
