Tale. Part of the Azbuka cycle (1872–1875), the primers Tolstoy wrote for peasant children, included in the First Russian Reader (1875). A just vizier, insulted by a rioting crowd, asks the king to help the people rather than punish them; when a shopkeeper informs on the neighbour who pulled his beard, the vizier forgives the man and warns him about his bad neighbour.
