Two Hussars

Два гусара

Lev Tolstói en Yásnaia Poliana (1908)
byLeo Tolstoy

Story in two times: the elder Count Turbin, a reckless and generous hussar of 1800, passes through a provincial town, wins at cards, seduces a widow and leaves a legendary memory; twenty years later his son, also a hussar, visits the same house and behaves in a calculating and petty way. The comparison between generations is the key. Published in 1856.
