Lev Tolstói en Yásnaia Poliana (1908)
byLeo Tolstoy

School primer in four books, published on 1 November 1872, to teach peasant children to read, write and count. It gathers the alphabet, hundreds of fables, stories, true "byli", descriptions and popular-science pieces written or adapted by Tolstoy in deliberately bare prose, passages in Church Slavonic (the Chronicle of Nestor, saints' lives, the Bible) and arithmetic. Poorly received by critics, Tolstoy considered it one of his most important works.
