byMahāvīra

The third Aṅga: a catalogue of doctrines arranged by number, from one to ten —one soul, two kinds of beings, three jewels and so on—, in the manner of the Buddhist Aṅguttara Nikāya. It gathers very varied information on cosmology, karma, discipline and legend, and in its present redaction mentions the seven schisms after Mahāvīra.

Authorship note

Canonical compilation: according to the Śvetāmbara tradition it transmits Mahāvīra's teaching as recited by his disciple Sudharman to Jambū; it was written down at Valabhī (c. 453/466 CE) and contains strata of very different periods. Mahāvīra did not write it. The Digambaras regard the original Aṅgas as lost.
