Sūtrakṛtāṅga (The Book of Doctrines)
सूयगड (Sūyagaḍa) / सूत्रकृताङ्ग (Sūtrakṛtāṅga)

The second Aṅga, also of an early stratum. It sets out and refutes the doctrines of the rival teachers of Mahāvīra's time —materialists, fatalists, agnostics, ritualists— and warns the monk against the world's temptations. It is a key source for the panorama of the ascetics of the Ganges valley in the time of Mahāvīra and the Buddha. The second part includes Ārdraka's dialogue with Gośāla and with a Buddhist.

Authorship note
Canonical compilation: according to the Śvetāmbara tradition it transmits Mahāvīra's teaching as recited by his disciple Sudharman to Jambū; it was written down at Valabhī (c. 453/466 CE) and contains strata of very different periods. Mahāvīra did not write it. The Digambaras regard the original Aṅgas as lost.
