Mahāniśītha (The Great Code of Penances)
महानिसीह (Mahānisīha) / महानिशीथ (Mahāniśītha)

A late chedasūtra on confession and penance, with exemplary stories and ritual and mantric elements. According to its own colophon it was reconstructed from a damaged manuscript by the master Haribhadra (8th c.), and its place in the canon was disputed.

Authorship note
A disciplinary text (chedasūtra) of the Śvetāmbara canon; tradition ascribes it to later masters, such as Bhadrabāhu, who would have arranged rules going back to Mahāvīra. Not recognised by the Digambaras.
