Gorgias — Plato

Written work

Gorgias

Γοργίας

Busto de Platón (Museos Capitolinos, MC 1377)
byPlato

Socrates questions in turn the rhetorician Gorgias, his pupil Polus and the politician Callicles about rhetoric and the best life. Against Callicles, who defends the natural right of the stronger and unrestrained pleasure, Socrates maintains that doing injustice is worse than suffering it and that true statesmanship cares for souls. It ends with a myth of the judgement of the dead.
