Busto de Platón (Museos Capitolinos, MC 1377)
byPlato

Brief poems, mostly amatory or funerary, set under Plato's name: to Aster ('You gaze at the stars, my star'), to Dion, to Agathon, to Archeanassa, and the epitaph of the Eretrians deported to Persia. They recall the tradition that Plato wrote poetry before he met Socrates.

Authorship note

Attributed: some thirty epigrams transmitted by Diogenes Laertius (III 29–33), Athenaeus and the Greek Anthology. Their authenticity is very doubtful in almost every case; some scholars defend a few.
