《莊子·讓王》

A series of stories of men who refuse the throne, offices or gifts so as not to harm their life: Xu You, Shan Juan, King Danfu leaving Bin, Prince Sou of Yue hiding in a cave, Liezi refusing a minister's grain, Bo Yi and Shu Qi.

Authorship note
Miscellaneous chapter (zapian). Not by Zhuang Zhou, even though the book circulates under his name: it belongs to the schools that claimed him between the 4th and 2nd centuries BCE, and its present form is that of Guo Xiang's recension (c. 300 CE). Graham groups it with chapters 28–31 as "Yangist" material, centred on preserving one's own life against power; scholarship regards it as among the latest and most alien to the whole.
