《莊子·秋水》

One of the most read chapters. The Lord of the River discovers in the autumn flood the immensity of the ocean and converses with Ruo, god of the Northern Sea, on the relativity of great and small. Then come the frog in the well, the tortoise that would rather drag its tail in the mud and the debate with Huizi on the bridge over the river Hao about the joy of fish.

Authorship note
Outer chapter (waipian). Not by Zhuang Zhou, even though the book circulates under his name: it belongs to the schools that claimed him between the 4th and 2nd centuries BCE, and its present form is that of Guo Xiang's recension (c. 300 CE). Graham assigns it to the "School of Zhuangzi", the followers closest to the inner chapters.
