Traditional attribution
Zhuangzi, ch. 6: "The Great and Venerable Teacher" (Da zongshi)
《莊子·大宗師》

It describes the "true man" of antiquity, who neither loved life nor hated death, and celebrates transformation as the great teacher. The friends Zisi, Zixing, Zili and Zilai accept illness and death with humour; Confucius admires those who sing beside a companion's corpse; Nü Yu teaches the stages of the way and Yan Hui attains "sitting and forgetting".

Authorship note
Inner chapter (neipian). Even before Guo Xiang (c. 300 CE), tradition attributed the seven inner chapters to Zhuang Zhou himself, and most specialists (Graham, Liu Xiaogan) see in them the oldest and most personal layer of the book. Still, the titles and grouping are by later editors, they contain some additions, and Esther Klein (2010) has shown there is no evidence they circulated as a block before the Han.
