《莊子·漁父》

Zhuangzi en el álbum de retratos de soberanos sabios y ministros virtuosos
byZhuangzi

An old fisherman hears Confucius playing and reproaches him for his eight faults and four evils, inviting him to preserve his authenticity (zhen) instead of fretting to reform the world. Confucius bows to him. It is one of the three chapters Sima Qian attributes to Zhuang Zhou.

Authorship note

Miscellaneous chapter (zapian). Not by Zhuang Zhou, even though the book circulates under his name: it belongs to the schools that claimed him between the 4th and 2nd centuries BCE, and its present form is that of Guo Xiang's recension (c. 300 CE). Graham groups it with chapters 28–31 as "Yangist" material, centred on preserving one's own life against power; scholarship regards it as among the latest and most alien to the whole.
