A Little Hero

Маленький герой

Retrato de Fiódor Dostoievski, por Vasili Perov
byFyodor Dostoevsky

An eleven-year-old boy, a guest at a country house outside Moscow, silently falls in love with a young married woman, Madame M., and saves her from scandal by returning a compromising letter she has lost. A luminous story of awakening sensuality and childish heroism, all the more surprising for having been written in a cell by a man who did not know whether he would be executed.
