Petersburg Visions in Verse and Prose
Петербургские сновидения в стихах и прозе

A feuilleton published in Vremya in 1861, a blend of memory, chronicle and fantasy, in which Dostoevsky recalls a 'vision on the Neva' one winter evening: the whole city seems to him a fantastic dream, and in it he discovers his vocation as the writer of the humble. It is a key text for the literary mythology of St Petersburg.
