The Life of a Great Sinner

Житие великого грешника

Retrato de Fiódor Dostoievski, por Vasili Perov
byFyodor Dostoevsky

Project for a great novel on the life of a man who passes through every extreme of sin and faith, with a decisive episode in a monastery beside an elder inspired by Tikhon of Zadonsk. It was never written, but its materials passed into Demons, The Adolescent and The Brothers Karamazov, whose Zosima derives from this plan.
