Notebooks for the Novels
Записные тетради и черновики к романам

The notebooks in which Dostoevsky prepared his novels — plans, dialogues, variants, changing names, discarded ideas — make it possible to follow the genesis of Crime and Punishment (which began as a first-person confession), The Idiot (whose prince was at first a dark character), Demons and The Brothers Karamazov. They are an exceptional record of the novelist's workshop.
