الاقتصاد في الاعتقاد (al-Iqtisad fi l-i'tiqad)
His principal treatise of Ash'ari theology: it sets out God's existence, His attributes and acts, prophecy and eschatology with a syllogistic method. It defends a middle way between the literalism of the traditionists and the rationalism of the philosophers and Mu'tazilis, and expresses reservations about a theology based on mere authority. Asín Palacios translated it into Spanish in 1929.
