The Epistle on Divinely Bestowed Knowledge

الرسالة اللدنية (al-Risala al-laduniyya)

Al-Ghazali según Khalil Gibran
byAl-Ghazali

An epistle on knowledge acquired not by study but by divine inspiration (*'ilm ladunni*), with a theory of the soul and its ways of knowing. Its doctrine is compatible with passages of the *Ihya*, but its terminology has suggested a later origin.

Authorship note

Doubtful attribution: Margaret Smith translated it as al-Ghazali's (1938), but it has often been attributed to Ibn Arabi; it requires manuscript study (Bouyges and Allard, pp. 124–125; Iranica).
