Defence (Reply to the Cologne charges)
Responsio (Rechtfertigungsschrift)
It examines the incriminated propositions one by one, declaring some miscopied, and defends the true sense of the others by appealing to Augustine and Thomas. It contains the sentence on the difference between error and heresy and is the main criterion for identifying his authentic texts.

Authentic. Eckhart's reply (September 1326) to the two lists of propositions presented by the archbishop's commissioners; preserved in a manuscript of the Soest municipal library and edited among the Acta Echardiana.
