A liturgical reworking of Celano's first life, intended for reading in choir. Its interest lies in the early spread of the cult and in the fixing of an official account a few years after the canonisation.

A biographical source, not a work by Francis. Composed around 1232–1235 by a former master of the French royal chapel who joined the order; he also composed a rhymed office.
