The Mirror of Perfection
Speculum perfectionis status fratris minoris

One hundred and twenty-four chapters presenting Francis as a model of strict poverty and of resistance to institutionalisation, with episodes about the Canticle, Sister Lark and his death. It reflects the reading of the Spirituals of the early fourteenth century.

Authorship note
A biographical source, not a work by Francis. A compilation dated 1318 from the companions' writings (above all Brother Leo); Paul Sabatier published it in 1898 believing it dated from 1227, an error that opened the 'Franciscan question'.
