Narada
Nāradaparivrājaka Upaniṣad
Traditional attribution
Nāradaparivrājaka Upaniṣad
नारदपरिव्राजकोपनिषद्

One of the minor Upaniṣads of the renunciation group, transmitted with the Atharvaveda. In the form of teaching addressed to Nārada, it sets out the classes of renouncers, their rules of life —begging, solitude, indifference to honour and dishonour— and the goal of liberation. Its title reflects the image of Nārada as the wandering ascetic (parivrājaka) par excellence.

Authorship note
A late Upaniṣad of renunciation (saṃnyāsa) that takes Nārada as interlocutor; it is not his work. Uncertain medieval date.
