The Little Flowers of Saint Francis
Fioretti di san Francesco (de los Actus beati Francisci et sociorum eius)

Fifty-three chapters of stories about Francis and his companions (the wolf of Gubbio, the sermon to the birds, perfect joy, Brother Juniper, Brother Masseo) written with a freshness that has made them a classic of fourteenth-century Italian prose. They are the source of the saint's popular image, but not a record of his life: they should be read as memory and as literature.
Authorship note
Not a work by Francis. An anonymous Tuscan version (c. 1370–1390) of the Actus beati Francisci et sociorum eius, compiled in Latin around 1327–1337 in the Marches and attributed to Ugolino Boniscambi of Montegiorgio. They gather oral traditions of the friars of the Marches, close to the Spirituals; the Considerations on the Stigmata were added later.
