The Correct Balance
القسطاس المستقيم (al-Qistas al-mustaqim)
A dialogue with an Isma'ili in which al-Ghazali shows that the Qur'an contains its own "balances", five forms of reasoning corresponding to the figures of the syllogism, so that no infallible imam is needed to reach certainty. It is at once anti-Isma'ili polemic and a defence of logic.
