Upadeśasāhasrī (A Thousand Teachings)
उपदेशसाहस्री (Upadeśasāhasrī)

A treatise in two parts, one in prose (three chapters on how to teach a pupil) and one in verse (nineteen chapters). It is the only book by Śaṅkara that does not comment on another, and the best way to know his teaching method: the teacher leads the pupil through questions to discriminate between the conscious witness and what is observed. Sengaku Mayeda published its critical edition and the standard translation.
Authorship note
The only independent work whose authenticity has been demonstrated: Mayeda (1965) verified it with Hacker's criteria.
