Adi Shankara
Prabodhasudhākara (Moon of the Nectar of Awakening)
Traditional attribution
Prabodhasudhākara (Moon of the Nectar of Awakening)
प्रबोधसुधाकर

A didactic poem of some two hundred and fifty verses that leads the reader from disenchantment with the body and pleasures to meditation and devotion to Kṛṣṇa as a way to knowledge of the Self. Its blend of Advaita and bhakti is typical of the late prakaraṇas ascribed to Śaṅkara.

Authorship note
Traditionally ascribed to Śaṅkara and included in the Vani Vilas edition of his complete works (a29); modern scholarship, since Hacker and Mayeda, accepts as authentic only the major commentaries and the Upadeśasāhasrī, so this work is recorded as attributed. It opens volume 16 of the Vani Vilas edition, which gathers twenty-five minor prakaraṇas. Spanish title descriptive.
