Living Flame of Love (poem) — John of the Cross

Written work

Living Flame of Love (poem)

byJohn of the Cross

Four six-line stanzas that sing the state of union from within: the flame that wounds 'my soul in its deepest centre', the gentle cautery, the lamps of fire, the Beloved awakening in the breast. It is his shortest and most intense poem.
